It's getting hot out there! Summer hydration tips

Hydration is crucial, especially during the warmer months when we are sweating more.

Sweating is a good thing! It helps us regulate our body temperature by excreting water to the surface of our skin which provides a cooling effect topically and to our blood below. Sweat is mostly water, but it can also contain small amounts of trace minerals, salt, sugar, ammonia and urea.

Electrolytes and trace minerals are essential for optimal body function and we usually aren’t getting sufficient amounts from our current food or drinking sources.

Because our bodies are 60% water, nearly every fluid and cell contains or uses electrolytes- the main ones being sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium. We absorb these from the things we eat and drink and when we sweat, we lose some of them. It doesn’t help that our food and drink sources are not as mineral or nutrient dense as they once were 100, 50 or even 20 years ago due to environmental factors and farming practices. Usually our gut health isn’t the best for supporting optimal absorption, so we aren’t usually getting in and efficiently using as much as we think!

And for anyone in preconception, prenatal or postpartum seasons, your body uses up a lot more of these resources to nurture healthy cell growth, metabolism and balance for you and your little one.

Now more than ever we want to make sure key electrolytes and trace minerals are being replenished.

Here are a few of our favorite ways:

  • Add the juice of an organic lemon or lime and a good pinch of pink Himalayan salt to 32oz. of distilled or filtered water

  • LMNT electrolyte packets- we love Citrus Salt and Watermelon

  • Needed hydration packets- grapefruit is a fan favorite

  • Cellcore CT-Minerals (email us for referral code)

  • High Garden makes super nourishing teas for all seasons of life

  • We usually have an assortment of all of these in the office too!

Of all the water out there, distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water are shown to have the least toxins and heavy metals, so when you can choose those!

Happy Summer and stay hydrated, friends!
